Caddis fly larvae are known to incorporate bits of whatever they can find into their cocoons, be it fish bone or bits of leaves. Hubert Duprat gave them gold, turquoise, gems and pearls.

Ahh… I remember Gerald Durrell writing about these, and how he would switch out the building materials in the wee flies environments so that their little homes would have patterns and many different colors.

snuffboxisdead replied to your post: People are sniggering about the idea of pubic…
My shaved body does not look like the body of a pre-pubescent child & I never for one moment have thought my partner would prefer such a body, just as I prefer his obviously 36 year body to be completely shaved.

I totally get that.

I’m not saying everyone that enjoys shaving wants sex with a pre-adolescent. Not at all. There is a definite aesthetic appeal to it that even I can see. These feelings are my totally biased, gut reactions. The minute, in a conversation, that someone assumes women (and they assume I’m a woman) must shave their genitals, I get angry. My issues with shaved vulvas is one I’m trying to work through, and I’m not claiming that my feelings are universally true and should be applied to everyone. Just that, based on my experiences and where I am in my life right now, shaved vulvas freak me the fuck out.

If I had a partner that preferred to shave, I’d be fine with that. But they’d have to understand that I’m not at a point where I would be comfortable with removing my pubic hair. And maybe I never will be

People are sniggering about the idea of pubic shaving being linked to a desire for younger partners, particularly pre-adolescent.

But I do kind of agree.

I seriously hate the way completely shaved vulvas look. I was sexually abused as a pre-adolescent and I have a visceral sort of fear-hate-anger when I see fully shaved vulvas in a sexual context — even when it’s a person that is of the age of consent and the sex act is consensual.

I know my distaste towards shaved vulvas goes beyond my dislike of how body hair is gendered. It’s a very deep, personal issue for me and I get into a twitchy rage when it’s assumed that vulvas must be shaved and not shaving is mocked.

I don’t want my body to look like the body that was abused.

Listening to guys try to explain why women shave their pubic hair is hilarious.

Son, sit your ass down.

My pubes ain’t unhygienic, I smell gorgeous and taste delicious, and if you disagree then you ain’t gettin’ near my cunt in the first place.

Also, if you’re getting hairballs, you’re licking the wrong damn place.

The reality of what women, even feminists, find pleasurable is not always politically correct. Sexuality is not neat and clean. I have talked to many feminist women who struggle to balance what really happens behind closed doors and what they feel the bedroom politics of a “good feminist” should be. Enjoying BDSM, strap-on sex and sex toys, genderplay, rape and incest taboo, mainstream pornography, and other “deviant” sexual taboos with a consensual partner does not make a person a “bad feminist” or a hypocrite. To the contrary, feminism is what gave me permission to love sex, with myself and with others, to embrace my sexual orientation, and find out what turns me on. Pro-sex feminism argues that recognizing the role of fantasy in sexual arousal and coming out of shame about sexual desires opens the door to a more frank and honest discussion about women’s bodies, consent, and safer sex. And that leads to better, safer sex that encourages communication and complete, enthusiastic consent to sex that is fulfilling and healthy. How is that not feminist?

Precisely.

(via junkyard-bodhisattva)

Yessssss.

Sometimes I run into content that (I feel) masquerades as consensual BDSM but is just so vile and honestly hateful towards the submissive partner that it makes me begin to hate myself for having interest in any form of BDSM.

I have to take a step back and look at my feelings about the sexual acts that turn me on. There are some that I would never do in real life, plenty that I wouldn’t do without discussion beforehand, and some that I couldn’t imagine NOT including in a sexual relationship.

My obsessive navel-gazing can be a good thing, it helps me to understand myself separate from common misconceptions.

Imagine a dream.
Eyes closed, Mouths open, as if in a dream. Standing facing us with their backs to the darkness, they sing, soundless; they have been standing here, singing for themselves for a long time, imagining us, hearing. Standing, facing days of tedium, facing a world that has adorned them with a false crown.
Standing, waiting.

For ‘Listen’, a project inspired by Newsha Tavakolian’s childhood dream to become a singer, she made six studio portraits of professional women singers, who are not allowed to sing solo, perform in public or produce CD’s in Iran because of Islamic tenets.

Inspired by her feelings about her society, she made six extra images, which are also imaginary album covers with titles for the singers. As a statement, the CD cases are left empty.

The works are accompanied by a video installation with silent clips of the women singers performing.
